Humana Renovates Medicare Supplement Plans Underwritten Applications Approval Process

Humana recently introduced its updated process for agents to submit underwritten applications for Medicare Supplement Plans. The new process includes Humana's Enrollment Hub to streamline the process and get real-time underwriting.

There are a few guidelines to keep in mind when submitting applications:

  • Applicants with hypertension or cholesterol treatment will NOT be automatically denied.
  • Asthma and depression with medication will be considered for approval.
  • Top medical conditions that are declined—pending surgery or treatment for chronic pain and pain management.
  • Top medication reason for decline—blood thinners. But a one-time fill for surgery with a full recovery may be considered.
  • For applications completed outside of an Open Enrollment Period or Guaranteed Issue scenario, the Medicare Records Release Authorization Form is required.
  • Applications must be submitted with client demographics (name, DOB, address, etc.), all pages, client signatures, and verification that all medical questions have been answered to be considered complete.

Applications may be denied for three main reasons:

  • The Client has a pending surgery
  • The Client has chronic pain or narcotic pain management
  • The Client has kidney disease

Some circumstances might allow applications to get approved despite these issues. Call the Underwriting Team to check if your clients are eligible. Review the underwriting guide to find the full list of conditions and medications.
