NEW FOR 2023 - SPECIFIC TO MEDICARE PARTS A & B:

Per Medicare and You 2023, beginning January 1, 2023, consumers who missed enrolling in Medicare when eligible due to special circumstances may be able to sign up for Medicare during a Special Enrollment Period. Consumers should contact Medicare for more information.

Also, beginning January 1, 2023, CMS has changed the General Enrollment Period. The General Enrollment Period is still from January 1 - March 31 each year; however, the Medicare coverage will begin the month following Medicare enrollment. Previously the Medicare effective date was July 1.

NOTABLE:

  • To be eligible to use OEP/OEP-New (page 4), a beneficiary must be active in a Medicare Advantage plan. They may make one change to another Medicare Advantage plan or may return to Original Medicare (with or without a PDP) annually January 1 - March 31 and within the three (3) month window that begins with the date of Medicare Entitlement.
  • Beneficiaries with Medicaid and/or Low Income Subsidy (Extra Help) (pages 9-10) and not experienced a change in subsidy status have a SEP to make one plan change per quarter for the first three quarters of each year. Usage of the SEP is based on application date during Jan.-Mar., Apr.-June, and July-Sept. Beneficiaries deemed ‘‘potential at-risk” or ‘‘at-risk” for certain medication abuse are NOT eligible to use this SEP.
